Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 April 2026

TabMind ("we", "our", "the extension") is a Chrome extension that lets you chat with the contents of your open browser tabs using your own Anthropic Claude API key. This Privacy Policy explains exactly what data is processed, where it goes, and what we do (and do not) collect.

The short version

  • We have no servers that handle your tab contents, questions, or answers.
  • Your tab contents and questions go directly from your browser to Anthropic's API using your own API key.
  • We do not see, store, log, sell, or share your browsing data, tab contents, prompts, or responses.
  • Your API key is stored locally in Chrome's encrypted extension storage on your device. It never leaves your browser except in requests made directly to Anthropic.

1. Data we process

1.1 Tab contents and questions

When you select tabs and ask a question, TabMind reads the visible text content of those tabs locally in your browser and sends it, together with your question, directly to Anthropic's Claude API. This request is made browser-to-Anthropic over HTTPS. It does not pass through any TabMind server.

Anthropic processes this data under their own Privacy Policy and Commercial Terms. Because you use your own API key, your usage is governed by your Anthropic account, not ours.

1.2 API key

Your Anthropic API key is stored in chrome.storage.local on your device. It is used solely to authenticate your requests to Anthropic. We never transmit, log, or back up your key.

1.3 Licence key (Pro users only)

If you purchase a Pro licence, our payment processor Gumroad issues a licence key by email. When you enter that key into the extension, TabMind validates it once with Gumroad's licence verification API. We do not receive your payment details — Gumroad handles all payment processing under their own privacy policy.

1.4 What this website collects

This marketing website (tabmind.pauledwards.xyz) does not use analytics cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party advertising. Basic request logs may be retained by our hosting provider for security and abuse prevention.

2. Data we do not collect

  • Tab URLs, titles, or contents
  • Your questions or Claude's answers
  • Browsing history
  • Personal identifiers, account data, or device fingerprints
  • Telemetry or usage analytics from inside the extension

3. Permissions the extension requests

  • tabs — to list your open tabs in the picker so you can choose which to include.
  • scripting / activeTab — to read the visible text content of tabs you explicitly select.
  • storage — to save your API key, licence key, and settings on your device.
  • host permissions — required to read content from the tabs you choose to include.

TabMind never reads tab contents in the background. Reading only happens when you explicitly select tabs and ask a question.

4. Third parties

  • Anthropic — processes your prompts and tab contents to generate answers.
  • Gumroad — processes Pro purchases and licence verification.

5. Children

TabMind is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any data from them.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be announced on this page.
